It is particularly noteworthy that the color of all Macallan whiskies comes exclusively from the wooden casks in which they mature. As wood is a natural product, each cask influences the whisky individually, giving it different aromas and colors as it matures.
The oak casks for The Macallan whiskies are first made in northern Spain, where they are flavored with sherry for 18 months before being sent to Scotland, where The Macallan's fine spirit is stored.
The Macallan's Colour Collection is characterized by a careful selection and combination of American and European oak casks, each of which gives the whiskies unique taste profiles and colors:
Macallan Colour Collection 12 Years
This whisky has natural golden hues and aromas of citrus, fruit trees and nutmeg due to its maturation in sherry-matured oak casks from Jerez de la Frontera. The packaging colors harmoniously complement the golden oak hue of the whisky.
Macallan Colour Collection 15 Years
Shaped by aromas such as citrus fruits, vanilla and baked peaches, this whisky has a natural beech-coloured hue due to its maturation in similar casks. The packaging colors reflect the bright terroir of Jerez de la Frontera and complement the rich beechwood hue.
Macallan Colour Collection 18 Years
This whisky, matured in casks that have also been enriched with sherry from Jerez de la Frontera, develops a maroon color and aromas of vanilla, milk chocolate, orange and honeycomb. The packaging colors, inspired by the warm evening sun over Jerez, emphasize the light red-brown hue of the whisky.
Overall, with the Colour Collection, The Macallan emphasizes the profound connection between the quality of the casks, the natural raw materials and the traditional craftsmanship to create unique whiskies.
