The honey-like taste of Bärenfanger honey is attributed to the 15th century. It is documented that its origins lie in East Prussia. There, honey was deliberately refined with various herbs and spices to be later processed with alcohol into a delicious honey mixture. The complicated process of producing East Prussian bear honey is similar today. The honey liqueur is made from Mexican honey, which grows in the highlands of the Yucatán region, to create the wide variety of flavors associated with the fine drop. Today, the liqueur is refined with vanilla pods, cinnamon, peelable lemon and cloves, a combination that creates a pleasant harmony of flavors with a sweet tang on the palate.
