Die Wurzeln von Oliva gehen auf eine lange Tabaktradition zurück, die 1866 von Melanio Oliva in Kuba begann. Zwei Generationen später, im Jahr 1966, verließ Gilberto Oliva Sr. seine Heimat. Nach ausgedehnten Reisen durch verschiedene Länder fanden die Olivas 1994 in Nicaragua ein neues Zuhause. Im folgenden Jahr wurde die erste Eigenmarke geboren. Nach der Eröffnung einer neuen Fabrik im Jahr 2003 gelang der Marke Oliva im Jahr 2006 mit der V-Serie der Durchbruch auf dem Markt. Im Jahr 2014 wurde Oliva Serie V Melanio von Cigar Aficionado zur Zigarre des Jahres gekürt.
