Talisker Distillery is a whiskey distillery on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Talisker is the only single malt Scotch whiskey crafted by the sea, on the coast of the Isle of Skye, one of Scotland's most remote and wildest islands, yet presenting one of the most beautiful landscapes.
This 45-year-old single malt is part of Talisker's oldest batch. 12 heavily burnt American oak casks were stored in the ice of a Canadian glacier for 96 hours. This caused the casks to expand. This caused the casks to open slightly, exposing the whisky to the cold. This extraordinary result facilitated the transfer of the sweetness and spiciness of the bourbon to the whisky, resulting in a uniquely pleasant taste.
The nose is filled with dry, mild notes and the typical Talisker pepper note. These are joined by maritime facets of seaweed and iodine, salt crystals and the sweetness of dried fruit. A creamy vanilla note and smoky accents of sandalwood can also be perceived. On the palate, it is initially velvety, soft and slightly sweet with aromas of cream sweets. It then becomes more intense with notes of salt, pepper and some chili. The finish is long-lasting and smoky aromas are also very present here.
