The Macallan is a single malt whiskey distillery in Easter Elchies, Craigellachie, Banffshire, Scotland.

The Macallan was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to be legally licensed. The production of The Macallan is based on decisive influences from Spain, North America and Scotland as well as their respective natural raw materials in combination with traditional methods and craftsmanship.

All of the whiskeys get their color 100 percent from the wood of the barrels in which they are stored. Since wood is a natural product, every tree is different and therefore gives the whiskey different flavors and colors as it matures. The assembled barrels from northern Spain are then flavored with sherry for 18 months and then shipped to Scotland, where they are bottled with the fine brandy from The Macallan.

Macallan Oscuro comes from oak barrels in which dry Oloroso sherry was previously stored. An exceptionally high proportion of this is "first fill", which gives the whiskey a rich, deep color and an intense aroma.

This Macallan has an inviting bouquet of ripe forest fruit, combined with dark chocolate, orange and creamy vanilla. The taste is very soft with dried figs, ripe oranges and a hint of crunchy apples. The finish is full-bodied and long-lasting with a hint of warm wood smoke.
