Glenmorangie is a whiskey distillery in Tain in the Northern Highlands of Scotland and probably one of the most famous whiskey distilleries. The malt used in the production is unpeated so that no smoke aromas detract from the mild fruity character of the Glenmorangie whiskey. The distillery uses Mainly American oak barrels. First, the raw spirit is filled in (mostly first fill) bourbon barrels for 10 years. Then the whiskey is decanted into bourbon barrels, sherry barrels, port pipes or Sauternes barrels for the finish. Glenmorangie achieves a great variability in the whiskey range.

After the distillation process, the distillate is initially aged for 15 years in American white oak bourbon barrels. Subsequently, 30 percent of the distillate is stored for three years in barrels that were previously filled with Spanish Oloroso sherry. The remaining 70 percent is stored in old bourbon barrels. After a total maturation period of 18 years, the two components are then combined again. The maturation in ex-bourbon and sherry casks gives this full-bodied, aromatic whisky from the Highlands a luxurious and soft composition with a pleasantly sweet taste. Dates and figs are just as perceptible in the aroma profile as spices, nuts and some wood smoke. The result is round and long with pleasant notes of dried fruit.
