Cardhu was founded as an illegal distillery by Helen Cumming in 1811 and licensed in 1824. It is the first distillery officially founded by a woman.
In 1811, John and Helen Cumming made their first stop at Cardow Farm on the Mannoch Hill, high above the River Spey, where spring water, naturally softened by a layer of peat, gushed out of the ground, making it the perfect place for your farm and a distillery that would stand the test of time.
The name "" Cardhu Amber Rock "" refers to the Gaelic translation of the brand name. This means "" black stone "" and was chosen to emphasize the color of the phrase "gold like a jewel". Bourbon nuances arise from the second maturation in roasted barrels, seasoned with bourbon whiskey, which give the Cardhu more smoothness and roundness. The double maturation in bourbon barrels gave the malt particularly strong vanilla aromas.
The sweetness of pear, exotic fruits and notes of vanilla fill your nose. White chocolate and almonds follow. In terms of taste, this Cardhu Amber Rock is sweet, fruity and spicy with citrus and a little oak.
