Ballantine had his shop in the South Bridge area off Princes Street in Edinburgh in 1837. There he experimented with blending malt and grain whiskeys of different ages from different distilleries to create a slightly lighter, more refined product. This is how the excellent and diverse Ballantine whiskeys came about.

The pale golden color and distinctive flavor of this blend comes from a complex blend of carefully selected malt and grain whiskies, all aged for several years in quality casks.
